Founded in 1999 by Chef James O’Brien, a U.S. Navy veteran and former culinary instructor at Pensacola Junior College, his vision was to create a small cafe where good food can be paired with good wine. Since opening, O’Brien’s has been a favorite for locals and tourists alike for 27 years.
Chef O’Brien continued his commitment to excellence and community, helping to ensure his restaurant became a beloved local landmark.
In 2017, David and Lucia Greenfield purchased O’Brien’s Bistro, sustaining the restaurant’s spirit of hospitality and culinary craftsmanship.
David, a seasoned restaurateur, first came to Pensacola in the 1980s to manage Steak & Ale where he met Lucia Bonifay, a sixth-generation Pensacola native. Together they built a rich background in restaurant operations. Previously living in South Florida, their restaurants earned multiple awards including Best New Restaurant, Best Seafood Restaurant, and Best Casual Dining Restaurant. Through their experiences in international and coastal cuisine, David and Lucia combined fine dining quality with a warm, approachable atmosphere, shaping what O’Brien’s Bistro is today.
O’Brien’s Bistro continues the tradition of excellence, remaining dedicated to creating flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented dishes made to order using fresh, local ingredients with meats, fish, produce delivered daily, and all sauces and dressings prepared in house from scratch.
O’Brien’s Bistro offers brunch, lunch, and dinner menus along with a specialized wine and cocktail menu and a Tapas menu in the bar. Their brunch menu offers omelets, seafood, appetizers, and various versions of the ever-popular eggs benedict. The lunch menu offers sandwiches, burgers, and salads for those who want a light mid-day meal. The O’Brien’s Bistro dinner menu has something for everyone, from escargot to filets, to baked and stuffed grouper to New Orleans shrimp and andouille pasta. The wine and cocktail menu offers many options that will perfectly complement your dish of choice.
In addition to the traditional seating, O’Brien’s Bistro offers a private dining room for parties, dinners, meetings, and celebrations for up to 40 guests where customized menus can be tailored to your budget and occasion. The space is versatile and suitable for sit-down meals, wedding rehearsals, bridal showers, birthday celebrations, retirement dinners, and more.
