On January 9, the Krewe of Priscus transformed the Pensacola Bay Center into a dazzling fusion of Carnival tradition and festival flair for its inaugural Mardi Gras Coachella Ball. The immersive celebration—complete with a full-size Ferris wheel inside the Bay Center—drew hundreds of revelers eager to jumpstart the Mardi Gras season in unforgettable fashion.

Blending the vibrant energy of Coachella with classic Mardi Gras elements, attendees arrived in elaborate costumes featuring neon beads, feathered headdresses, and glittering outfits that lit up the night. Live entertainment set the tone early, with high-energy DJ sets and bands keeping the dance floor pulsating throughout the evening. Guests also enjoyed themed cocktails, king cake stations, and interactive photo booths, creating an atmosphere of nonstop celebration.

One of the night’s standout moments was the ceremonial crowning of the Krewe’s king and queen, a cherished Mardi Gras tradition reimagined with playful theatrics. During the ceremony, the emcee announced that organizer Brian Williams was nowhere to be found—only for him to interrupt via a wireless microphone from atop the Ferris wheel. As the ride slowly rotated, Williams descended to the cheers of the crowd and crowned Bart Dorn and Lorrie Dornas this year’s royal pair. The newly crowned king and queen then presided over the festivities amid lights, music, and roaring applause.

Known for pushing creative boundaries, the Krewe of Priscus delivered a bold, hybrid celebration that seamlessly merged Gulf Coast Carnival spirit with Coachella-inspired aesthetics. Attendees praised the flawless production—from lighting and sound design to the carefully curated entertainment—calling the experience both nostalgic and refreshingly modern.

In post-event reflections, organizers expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic turnout, describing the ball as a night filled with “pure Mardi Gras spirit.” Many attendees noted that the early-January celebration successfully brought the community together and set an electric tone for the remainder of the Mardi Gras season, from upcoming parades to future balls and festivities.
